There are lots and lots of web developers who will be able to design and host a website for you. Most websites are fairly standard, such as an ecommerce site, and therefore web developers would follow much the same pattern. However a community website is extremely diverse and, by it’s vary nature, has lots of information that needs to be easily accessible even to those who may not be computer savvy. A community website is there for a purpose which is to serve the community so it needs to cater for all. So it is very helpful to be able to speak to others who have gone through the process to finding out what works and what does not work so mistakes are not too costly or protracted. Forums are excellent places to garner information and any community web based projects may also prove a useful source of information. Before you employ someone, or indeed start the project yourself, you should have a clear idea as to how the website will look, what information you are trying to impart, how many pages it should have, will it have a forum or blog and above all ensure that changes to it can be done quickly and easily. Even with a bit of IT skill it might be possible to design your own with additional help from others with some knowledge but just be sure you have a clear idea as to the finished product before you start the process.
